The Cyclades

​The Cyclades are a group of islands situated in the Aegean Sea, southeast of mainland Greece. Known for their striking natural beauty and charming architectural style, these islands are a quintessential representation of Greek island aesthetics. The Cycladic architecture is characterized by its simplicity, harmony with the natural landscape, and use of local materials. 

All pictures are taken in Paros and Antiparos by me.

Typical features include whitewashed cubic houses with flat roofs, narrow winding streets, blue-domed churches, and vibrant bougainvillaea. The buildings are often clustered closely together to provide protection against strong winds and to maximize shade. This architectural style not only creates picturesque and photogenic scenes but also reflects practical adaptations to the Mediterranean climate, making the Cyclades a unique blend of functionality and beauty.

5. Ios: Known for its lively nightlife and beautiful beaches.
6. Syros: The administrative center of the Cyclades, known for its neoclassical architecture and cultural heritage.
7. Tinos: Famous for its religious significance, particularly the Church of Panagia Evangelistria.
8. Milos: Known for its stunning landscapes, unique rock formations, and beautiful beaches.
9. Andros: The second-largest island, known for its lush landscapes and hiking trails.
10. Sifnos: Renowned for its traditional pottery, beautiful villages, and gastronomy.
11. Amorgos: Famous for its dramatic scenery, hiking trails, and the Monastery of Hozoviotissa.
12. Folegandros: Known for its wild beauty and charming town.
13. Kea (Tzia): Known for its rugged landscape and proximity to Athens.
14. Sikinos: A quieter island with traditional charm and beautiful views.

These islands are just a few examples, as the Cyclades include around 220 islands, though many are uninhabited. Each island has its own unique charm and attractions, making the Cyclades a diverse and fascinating region to explore.
